We have begun building our ship 'The Explorer' We are going to fill it with all the things an explorer might have needed long ago.
Can you help us? What would an explorer have needed to take on board? What sort of person would an explorer need to be?

What a fantastic blog you have Room 1. I like the ship you are making. I wonder if you have made a map to go in it and a telescope so the sailors can see the land when they are getting near.

I think they would need to take lots of fresh water for drinking. They would probably need some chocolate biscuits too!
An Explorer needed: (we are thinking about Captain Cook and Christopher Columbus)
1. An Explorer needs lots of fruit and vegetables so the sailors don’t get scurvy.
2. Fresh water
3. Crew members
4. Compass
5. Hour glass
6. Something to remember your family by
7. Maps and weapons
8. Mapmaker
9. Telescope
10. Extra clothes (warm)
11. Blankets
What sort of person did an explorer need to be:
Passionate, adventurous, artistic to draw maps (cartographer), astronomer to navigate, courageous, tough, adaptable, strong, smart, brave, careful, responsible, reliable, kind?, bossy, used to roughing it, scary, serious, deep voice?, able to get people to listen to you.
